Which Gas Credit Card is for me?

This one’s not too hard a question once you get familiar with all these cards. Basically, you have two main options to start with:

1. Do you want a card for a specific gas station brand?

Or

2. Do you want a card that gets you rebates wherever you get gas?

If you currently get gas at the same type of station most of the time, you can probably get the most rewards for your purchases by getting a specific station card. BP and Speedway obviously want you to use their specific card, so they give some great rewards at their stations.

Even if you don’t already shop at one station type, you might consider if this would be an easy change for you if you want one of those cards.

On the other hand, if you want solid rewards wherever you get gas, the Discover Open Road and American Express Blue Cash cards will get you those rewards.

Between the two, the American Express Blue Cash card makes sense if you spend a lot in general on your credit card. Once you've spent over $6,500 on anything using the card (not just gas) in a year, you get great bonuses.

If you don't spend that much, the Discover Open Road card is probably a better choice for you.
